The newly completed College of Life and Sciences is notable for its striking exterior, featuring dramatic, angular sloped façade and its cladding of striking, desert-colored, textured material. The array of perforated diamond-shaped metal panels filter natural daylight and shade the interior from the harsh sun, positioned differently for each building facade orientation in order to direct more northern light inside while blocking the intense southern light. The angular geometry of the panel array is echoed in the building footprint and surrounding landscape features, as well as interior elements. The building’s form, sculpted in response to extensive environmental analysis, adapts the ancient science and aesthetics of wind towers, screens and other vernacular forms, which provide for natural ventilation, sun shading, high thermal mass, courtyards and use of vegetation. @CambridgeSeven in association with @GulfConsult Client @ssuc_kucp
