Gulf Trading and Refrigerating Company (GTRC), was established in the early 1950s, and is recognized as a major FMCG distributor in Kuwait. It is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Alghanim Industries. Over the years, GTRC has built itself into a well-established organization, handling products in food and beverage, hygiene, personal care, lighting, oil, dairy products, confectionary and other categories. GTRC proudly represents various blue chip multi-national companies such as Kraft Foods, Mars, Colgate Palmolive, Nabisco and Philips, with more than 100 brands in its portfolio. Initially formed as a joint venture with Spinneys, Alghanim Industries took over the management of GTRC in April 1997. With the emergence of co-op supermarkets, GTRC became a key distributor during the 1970’s. In 1998, GTRC became a wholly-owned subsidiary of parent company, Alghanim Industries. The business then rapidly cemented its position in the market, which was recognized by AC Nielson when it rated GTRC as the #1 distributor in Kuwait in January 2008.
