King Khalid International Airport
Expansion Plan
King Khaled International Airport was opened under the supervision of the custodian of the two holy mosques, King Fahd Bin Abdul Aziz Al Seoud on Wednesday the 12th of Safar 1404 (A.H.), which coincides with the 16th of November 1983. The airport is considered the air gateway into the heart of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and is also considered the organizational center for national air transport. The airport was built with strong absorption power in order to meet the increasing demands of international and local air transport for Riyadh. Its design is also linked to Islamic heritage and enables the airport to blend with the natural beauty of the desert. The main facilities present at the airport include the Commercial Lounge Complex, Royal Terminal, Air Cargo Building, Private Aviation Building, Mosque, Surveillance Tower and the Aviation Square. The latter comprises of two parallel runways, each of which is 4,200 meters long. The aviation square also includes ground level hallways and aircraft parking. As for the airport’s supporting buildings, they include Central Administration Complex, General Safety Complex, Central Kitchen, maintenance Workshops for on-ground services, Accompanying Maintenance Complex and the Internal Residential Complex for Families and individuals.
