Umm Qasr Port South (CMA Terminal)
General
The southern port of Umm Qasr is older than the northern port. It was constructed in 1940 and offers bonded storage for containers only. The Iraqi Port Authority (IPA) is currently in the process of removing all covered warehouses in the port. However, all services and equipment for private cargo are provided by private terminal operators. The IPA has an electronic gate control system used for calling, stevedoring, and invoicing vessels. The authority uses this system to operate, monitor, and track vessel movements and view the paperwork through the electronic system. The port has nine berths, each having different operators.
