Dunkin' is closing 800 US locations

New York (CNN Business)Dunkin' is permanently closing 8% of its United States locations, which amounts to roughly 800 restaurants. The company announced the changes in its second quarter earnings, released Thursday. Dunkin' described the closures as "real estate portfolio rationalization" and said the affected locations are in "low-volume sales locations" that only represent 2% of its US sales as of 2019. More than half of the closures are in Speedway convenience stores, a change it previously announced in February. These locations are set to be closed by the end of this year. Dunkin' (DNKN) also said approximately 350 locations "may permanently close" outside of the US. Earlier this week, McDonald's (MCD) also said it was closing about 200 "low-volume" locations with more than half being in Walmart (WMT) stores

Dunkin' Donuts has officially changed its name — see the new Dunkin'

Well, well, well. Look who (or what, rather) just got a flashy New Year's makeover. In January, Dunkin' officially dropped the "Donuts" in its title and is sporting some spiffy new branding. In September 2018, the iconic chain known for it's doughnuts and coffee first announced the big decision to shorten its name. The dramatic re-do nearly rivaled that time IHOP nearly broke the internet with its name change to IHOB (International House of Burgers). In the end, it was just a clever marketing ploy, but it definitely worked to help promote the pancake chain's new offering. Dunkin's makeover is mostly about aesthetics, however, as the chain will still be offering a variety of doughnuts and plenty of coffee (with seasonal flavors like Girl Scout cookie flavorings). The new logo still features Dunkin's signature orange and pink colors but the product packaging now has a more modern look. On Thursday, the brand announced that the new packaging, from Boxes O' Joe to paper napkins, will debut nationwide in "coming days" and will be in all U.S. stores by the end of this month. Coffee lovers can enjoy medium cappuccinos and lattes for just $2 everyday between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. at participating locations. Now, America's really ready to run on Dunkin' — but just Dunkin'.

OMAN STARTS DUNKIN'!

Dunkin' Donuts, one of the world's largest quick service restaurant companies, continues its rapid expansion and has announced its imminent launch of operations in Oman. Matrah Cold Stores LLC in partnership with the UAE Franchisee have created a Joint Venture Company to manage the Dunkin Donuts brand in Oman. Serving more than 3.0 million customers each day, with over 6,700 outlets in 44 countries worldwide, Dunkin' Donuts has quickly become a favourite across all groups for its excellent selection of beverages including the acclaimed Original Dunkin Coffee, a variety of freshly baked Donuts and a selection of other baked goods. The initial outlets for Dunkin' Donuts will open in Medinat Al Sultan Qaboos, Ghalla and at Shatti Cinema. A special opening ceremony and activities will be announced.

A few months ago I saw the following on Bayt.com Dunkin’ Donuts is the world’s leading coffee & donut chain, with over 5,500 stores in 40 countries. Continental Food Est. is the franchisee for Dunkin’ Donuts in the United Arab Emirates, and currently operates 26 Dunkin’ Donut stores throughout the UAE. Continental Foods Est. has been granted the franchise for Dunkin’ Donuts in Kuwait and is planning to open the first store by the end of 2004. Its 2005 now.. where are you Dunkin’s Donuts??
