PI.

General

PI.Dubai was co-founded by the creators of The Pizza Guys, Amber Haque and Rami Badawi, with a mission to create an original and authentic take on traditional Neapolitan pizza in the heart of Dubai. While we stay true to classical Italian cooking and traditions, we carefully enhance our menu with subtle influences from regional cuisines. Not for the sake of being different, but because it makes sense. We still believe there should be no compromise on what you eat. Which is why we ferment our dough for two days and use only sustainable seafood, hormone-free meats, and fresh produce.

PI Dubai: Could this be one of Dubai’s best Italian restaurants? We think so…

The creators of The Pizza Guys are back and oh my god are we happy about it. Meet PI Dubai – a new Italian restaurant, which just opened its doors* at the Dubai Mall and a place you have to go visit stat. We are half tempted to say don’t even bother continuing to read this and make haste, on your chariot, to PI Dubai. But you’re intrigued aren’t you? You want the juicy deets… First up, this homegrown concept is one of the most aesthetically pleasing restaurants we’ve seen pop up in the Middle East in a long while, and perhaps the best since Abu Dhabi’s Cafe No 57. It’s like stepping into the best interiors Pinterest board ever. The type you’d follow, and re-pin real bad. The exposed over-head lighting, as with many other elements, were inspired by the New York Subway. The vibe is unpretentious and the service – when we visited at least – is impeccable. Here the produce is fresh, organic, and clearly extremely high quality. The pizza dough gnocchi is the stuff cheat-day dreams are made of, and the peekytoe crab + wild shrimp sformato is divine. We really enjoyed the healthy but tasty spin on the classic Caesar salad with kale, and of course the ‘PI’ in ‘PI Dubai’ stands for pizza pie and you definitely shouldn’t leave without trying one of the eatery’s various pizza concoctions. The signature Merguez PI comes with house-made merguez sausages, picked peppers, cracked Palestianian olives, fior di latte and tart goats cheese with fresh mint. And to finish up? Well you have to try the hot caramel cake with mint and flaky sea salt and wash it down with a very reasonable, and very palatable AED 15 coffee. And the story behind this new gem? Well, the Pizza Guy founders, Amber Haque and Rami Badawi tapped chef Joe Truex to lead the new Dubai Mall restaurant and it is a lovely tale, as Truex told an Atlanta food blog: [When asked who he was going to work for, and who tempted him away from the Watershed on Peachtree] “It was somebody who used to wait tables at my restaurant,” adding: “He graduated from Georgia Tech, moved to Dubai and got married, and he and his wife started a little pizza restaurant in the business district. “It did well enough that they decided to move it to the Mall of Dubai [Dubai Mall – come on Truex, get it tight] and take it to the next level. We’re going to rebrand it and focus on the pizza, with a little antipasti, maybe a few pasta dishes, and some desserts.” So yalla. Go visit PI.Dubai and say hello to your favourite new casual eatery. Yummers. Insider tip: PI Dubai at The Dubai Mall has a beautiful 1000 sq. ft. outdoor terrace facing the Dubai Fountains, making it the perfect place to enjoy a spot of lunch or dinner during the winter/cooler months. *August 2015 in case you are reading in the future.

Upcoming Opening at Dubai Mall

New pizza concept to debut in the Dubai Mall

The latest venture by the UAE founders of the New York pizza chain, The Pizza Guys, will introduce a new pizza concept to Dubai. PI.DUBAI, a full-service pizza restaurant located on the lower ground floor of The Dubai Mall, will open its doors in time for Eid 2015. Teaming up with an award-winning chef, Joe Truex, the entrepreneurial duo of Amber Haque and Rami Badawi, have composed a menu of dishes that will showcase fresh, organic seasonal vegetables, wild harvested seafood, and humanely raised antibiotic-free and hormone-free meats. Haque underwent an intensive course at the Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana (Association of True Neapolitan Pizza), which protects and promotes the original methods of traditional pizza making. Months of research and testing enabled the two to create their own artisan dough recipe for the venue. Ingredients are sourced from various European markets, including Rungis in Paris, Australia and Canada, whilst poultry is carefully selected from a local UAE farm. As a full service restaurant PI.DUBAI will cater to 88 diners inside and 54 on the terrace. It will also feature an indoor greenhouse and a 1,000 square meter outdoor terrace facing the Dubai Fountains.

Upcoming Opening at Dubai Mall

The Pizza Guys founders to launch Pi.Dubai in July

The founders of The Pizza Guys set to open Pi.Dubai in July 2015 in The Dubai Mall, serving contemporary Italian soul food. Located on the lower ground floor of The Dubai Mall, Pi.Dubai is a full-service restaurant co-founded by Amber Haque and Rami Badawi, the creators of The Pizza Guys. "At the heart of the restaurant concept is the dough,” said Haque, who underwent an intensive course at the Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana (Association of True Neapolitan Pizza), which protects and promotes the original methods of traditional pizza making. Months of research and testing enabled the two to create their own artisan dough recipe for the venue. Maintaining the same approach of quality ingredients and artisanal methods the duo established at The Pizza Guys, Pi.Dubai's menu was created by chef Joe Truex, who brings over 27 years of international culinary experience, starting from his hometown in Louisiana and across multiple award-winning restaurants in New York and Europe. The menu has dishes which include fresh, organic seasonal vegetables, wild harvested seafood, and humanely raised antibiotic-free and hormone-free meats. Ingredients are sourced from various European markets, including Rungis in Paris, Australia and Canada, whilst poultry is carefully selected from a local UAE farm. Story continues below Advertisement The team takes pride that all ingredients are fresh and no frozen foods are used, as the restaurant will not have a freezer. With flour that comes from a 13th century mill in Italy, the dough is handmade and proofed for two to three days before it is ready for consumption. Pi.Dubai was designed and conceptualised by creative director David Irvin of Folklor, Los Angeles, who worked closely with local interior designer Atefeh Bashir of Ruiz Velasquez Design. The 3,000 sq. ft interior consists of old-world inspired interconnected spaces, with materials such as statuario marble flooring, brass finishings, and genuine Italian leather seats reflect a commitment to authenticity. Pi.Dubai will also feature an indoor greenhouse, as well as a 1000 sq. ft. outdoor terrace facing the Dubai Fountains.
